When it comes to hiring a moving company, one of the biggest fears is that people will end up paying a lot more money than what they were quoted. Unfortunately, that happens with many moving companies. Sometimes it’s the moving company’s fault, and sometimes it’s simply a problem of too little information.
If you take a few extra minutes of time, you can get an accurate moving estimate or even a binding estimate.
Why being in a hurry can cost you a lot of money?
The majority of Ace Moving’s customers are in a hurry when they contact us to get an accurate moving estimate. We get it. Getting ready for a move is very time-consuming. Still, it’s important that your moving consultant gets enough information to give you an accurate moving estimate. If you have a small place, maybe one or two bedrooms, and your move is pretty simple, then just getting hourly rates and minimums might be enough.
If you have a larger place, though, or if you need packing, or you have items that might be difficult to move, the last thing you want is a mover who’s not prepared. You can almost guarantee that your move will take a lot longer than initially thought.
Does a moving company representative have to go to your house to get a moving estimate?
Thanks to cell phones and tablets, moving company estimators no longer need to go to your home to give you an estimate. The entire process should take just a few minutes. All you need to do is walk around your home, showing the estimator what needs to be moved and what needs to be packed. Be sure to include everything because even a binding estimate becomes null and void if additional services are needed.

Don’t forget to verify everything
After the virtual tour, your moving estimator will send you your quote along with an inventory list. Read it thoroughly. Is everything included? Are you really going to have time to pack your kitchen? If not, let your moving estimator know so your quote can be changed. This may be hard to hear, but ultimately it’s up to you to paint an accurate picture of what needs to be packed, what needs to be moved, whether there are stairs, and whether a truck can park near the entrance to your home.
You’ve been really detailed- what happens if the move takes longer than the estimator thinks?
The great thing about a binding estimate is that if the inventory list, packing list, and other parameters of the move are all accurate, that’s all you’d pay.
How is Ace Moving different from some movers?
Ace Moving is a different kind of moving company. We’ve served the Bay Area for nearly 40 years, which is a long time for a moving company. Many companies don’t even offer virtual or in-person estimates. Ace Moving knows that accurate estimates help ensure return customers and referrals.
